TESTING BASE MATERIIALS AND WELDED JOINTS

Visual testing (VT), Penetrant testing (PT), Radiographic testing (RT), Magnetic particle inspection (MPI), Ultrasonic testing (UT), Vacuum leak testing (LT), Insulation dielectric withstand testing (DWT), Personnel supervision for the RT, VT, UT methods by level 3.
Repair center: -Preparation of necessary documentation (WPQR, WPS...) and testing, with the development of Studies as needed.

Visual testing VT

Visual control (VT) is applied before any other welded joint test method. This method of testing is relatively inexpensive, it is not time-consuming but can provide very useful information on both the quality of welded joints and the need for testing by another method.

Penetrant testing PT

Penetrant testing (PT) is a method that is widely applied to check welded joints on structures; this method reveals surface-breaking defects of the welded joint. The penetrant (usually red) is applied on previously cleaned and degreased surface.

Radiographic testing RT

Radiographic testing (RT) is a material testing technique that involves the use of either gamma rays (radioactive isotopes Ir-192 and Se-75) or x-rays. Radiographic tests have been widely applied when checking for internal defects and the general homogeneity of the material.

Magnetic particle inspection (MPI) is a process for detecting surface and shallow subsurface discontinuities (approx. 6mm deep) in ferromagnetic materials. It is based on the principle of magnetic induction. The tested part is magnetized.

Ultrasound testing (UT) is based on the property of ultrasound waves to propagate in homogeneous materials and be reflected by any discontinuities which may be encountered - materials of various acoustic properties (resistance), or non-homogeneity (defect) in the material.

Vacuum leak testing LT

Vacuum leak testing (LT) method is a non-destructive testing method (NDT) which determines impermeability of tanks, reservoirs of large volumes and great lengths of the welded joint. The advantage of this method is that it can be used on equipment that is already in service.

Dielectric withstand testing (DWT)

Dielectric withstand testing (DWT) method is used for testing the quality of the insulation layer applied to metal surfaces that serves as a protectionagainst corrosion. A quality indicator in this case is insulation resistance at the given voltage.

Personnel supervision

Level 3 controller competence: has the appropriate practical knowledge of used materials, workmanship, processes, and manufacturing technology in accordance with the selected NDT method, established NDT techniques and determination of eligibility criteria when they do not exist.
